The Central Library will be closed from 13.00 on Friday 23rd December 2011 for the Christmas vacation and will reopen at 08.30 on Tuesday 3rd January 2012.
Medical campus libraries will close at 17.00 on Friday 23rd December 2011 and reopen at their normal opening times on Tuesday 3rd January 2012.

The Wavewatcher’s Companion by Gavin Pretor-Pinney was announced as the winner of this year’s £10,000 prize on 17 November 2011. Pretor-Pinney is the founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society, and took time out to explore and explain waves in an approachable way.

- In Company Views select Research
- There is a link at the top right of the screen to Advanced Research Page, click on this link
- You may now conduct your search using the Company/Industry/Geography/Contributor perameters as before

This year’s winner of the Wellcome Trust Book Prize is Alice LaPlante for her book Turn of Mind. This is LaPlante’s debut novel and the first novel to win the prize. The story is from the perspecive of an eminent former surgeon who is in the last stages of Alzheimers who is suspected of the murder of her best friend. As the story progresses it reflects the state of the narrator’s mind as she enters the last stages of dimentia.

This year’s Financial Times & Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year has been announced. The winning title, Poor Economics by Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo was awarded the £30,000 prize at the award dinner last night.
